Tyson Closes Plants Due To Weather

Tyson Foods has shut down three pork plants and one beef plant and curtailed operations in three other facilities in light of what has been described as blizzard-like conditions in three Midwest states, the company confirmed in an email to Meatingplace.
Three of six Tyson pork plants in Iowa and Nebraska are not operating today as a result of "weather-related road conditions" and another plant will operate only one production shift, the email from Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson reported. The company added that among its plants in Nebraska and Kansas, one beef plant will not operate today and two others are expected to run at reduced hours.
No other details were provided.
The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings and winter storm warnings in parts of Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa as it follows a weather system covering the Plains today. The same system is expected to move into the Upper Great Lakes by Wednesday.
