US Corn Acreage Likely to Rise

(Dow Jones) -- U.S. farmers will likely raise last year's corn acreage to 90 million acres, up 2.3% from the 88 million planted in 2015, U.S. Department of Agriculture Acting Chief Economist Robert Johansson said on Thursday.
U.S. growers probably will sow 82.5 million acres of soybeans, slightly lower than last year's 82.7 million acres, he said at an annual forum.
Meanwhile, farmers this year are likely to plant 51 million acres of wheat, down 6.7% from the 54.6 million acres planted last year, according to Mr. Johansson.
The USDA forecasts are based on government analysis rather than a survey of farmers.
