Northwest Region Potato Stocks on February 1, 2016 Totaled 125 million Hundredweight Potato stocks in Idaho on February 1, 2016 totaled 71.0 million cwt. Disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 59.3 million cwt. February 1 potato stocks in Oregon totaled 12.0 million cwt. Disappearance to date was 9.78 million cwt. In Washington, February 1 potato stocks totaled 42.0 million cwt. Disappearance to date totaled 58.3 million cwt. Nationally, the 13 major potato States held 197 million cwt of potatoes in storage February 1, 2016, down 2 percent from last year. Potatoes in storage accounted for 49 percent of the 2016 fall storage States' production, compared to 51 percent from previous year. Potato disappearance, at 202 million cwt, was up 3 percent from February 1, 2015. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 16.9 million cwt, was 7 percent lower than 2015. Processors in Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon used 39.7 million cwt of potatoes for the season, down 3 percent from February 2015. In Washington and other Oregon counties, 46.3 million cwt of potatoes had been used by processors for the season, up 8 percent from the previous year. Processors in the 9 major States used 108 million cwt of potatoes for the season, up 1 percent from February 2015. Dehydrating usage accounted for 19.5 million cwt of the total potatoes processed.
