APHIS Announces Jack Shere as Chief Veterinary Officer

USDA announced Jack Shere Monday as the acting USDA Chief Veterinary Officer and Deputy Administrator for Veterinary Services. Shere will lead USDA staff in protecting and improving animal health, according to the announcement. Shere replaces John Clifford, who is now the Chief Trade Advisor for Veterinary Services’ National Import-Export Service. Clifford served as the Deputy Administrator and Chief Veterinary Officer for 12 years. Shere served as the Associate Deputy Administrator since 2013. The Veterinary Services office falls under USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. AHPIS administrator Kevin Shea said Shere brings a “wealth of veterinary knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience” to the position.
