Senate Agriculture Chairman Pat Roberts now says the committee will markup his GMO labeling bill Tuesday, following the postponement of the planned markup this week. While the action was delayed due to changes in the Senate schedule, the delay also allows the Kansas Republican to seek more Democratic support for the bill. Agriculture Committee Ranking Democrat Debbie Stabenow of Michigan said this week she does not support the bill in its current form. Stabenow added, however, “I'd like to very much find a bipartisan compromise.” A spokesperson for Roberts told Agri-Pulse he postponed the markup at the request of Stabenow because her bill providing assistance in Flint, Michigan's water crisis was expected to be considered on the Senate floor on Thursday.
