Kansas farmers and agricultural leaders are urging continued stability in North American trade, emphasizing the importance of Canadian and Mexican markets to farm profitability and rural economic growth. Representative Sharice Davids joined producers and industry leaders for a roundtable hosted by Farmers for Free Trade to discuss the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA, and its review. Davids says uncertainty over the agreement makes it harder for farmers to plan and invest. She also opposes blanket tariffs, arguing agricultural producers need policies that expand markets and control costs. Lance Jungmeyer of the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas says trade with Canada and Mexico supports 43,600 Kansas jobs. Both countries are also important suppliers of agricultural inputs and food products to the state. Ron Seeber of the Kansas Agribusiness Retailers Association says USMCA provides essential infrastructure for agriculture, helping grain and other products move efficiently across borders.
