Both anti-agriculture billboards constructed in Washington State were expected to come down this week. The groups behind the billboards received grants from the Environmental Protection Agency, and the federal agency says the media campaign was an inappropriate use of EPA funds. The Washington State Indian tribe behind the billboards said it was taking the billboards down voluntarily. The Capitol Press reports the tribe, along with environmental groups, collaborated on the “What’s Upstream” campaign to garner support for more regulation on agriculture. The billboards claimed “unregulated agriculture is putting our waterways at risk.” Meanwhile, two U.S. Senators are calling for an investigation into the billboards funding. Senators Pat Roberts and Jim Inhofe are requesting an audit of the EPA grant that ultimately funded the billboards.
