Northwest Region Potato Stocks on April 1, 2016 Totaled 80.5 million Hundredweight

Potato stocks in Idaho on April 1, 2016 totaled 46.0 million cwt. Disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 84.3 million cwt. April 1 potato stocks in Oregon totaled 7.50 million cwt. Disappearance to date 14.3 million cwt. In Washington, April 1 potato stocks totaled 27.0 million cwt. Disappearance to date totaled 73.3 million cwt. Nationally, the 13 major potato States held 126 million cwt of potatoes in storage April 1, 2016, down 2 percent from last year. Potatoes in storage accounted for 32 percent of the 2016 fall storage States' production, down slightly from previous year. Potato disappearance, at 272 million cwt, was up 1 percent from April 1, 2015. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 20.6 million cwt, was 7 percent lower than 2015

Processors in Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon used 53.7 million cwt of potatoes for the season, down 2 percent from April 2015. In Washington and other Oregon counties, 61.0 million cwt of potatoes had been used by processors for the season, up 6 percent from the previous year. Processors in the 9 major States used 145 million cwt of potatoes for the season, up 1 percent from April 2015. Dehydrating usage accounted for 27.2 million cwt of the total potatoes processed
