USDA Announces Grants to Support Local Food Systems, Specialty Crop Producers

Competitive grants from USDA announced Friday seek to support local food systems and specialty crop producers. USDA says more than $90 million in grants are available to help strengthen local and regional food systems, develop new market opportunities for producers, and support farmers growing fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, flowers and nursery crops. The grants, administered by USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service, include the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, the Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program, and the Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program. Applicants should start the registration process as soon as possible to ensure that they meet the deadline, May 12th. USDA says Grant applications must be submitted electronically through grants dot gov (www.grants.gov).
