2015 Dry Bean Production Numbers

US Dry Bean Production Up 2 percent from 2014 Northwest Dry Bean Production Down 11 percent from 2014 Idaho dry bean production is forecast at 2.14 million cwt, down 4 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 119,000 acres, is down 5,000 acres from 2014. Yield is expected to be 1,800 pounds per acre, unchanged from 2014. Garbanzo beans are expected to account for 42 percent of production, followed by pinto beans at 23 percent, and small red beans at 13 percent of production. Oregon dry bean production is forecast at 207,000 cwt, up 8 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 9,000 acres, is up 500 acres from 2014. Yield is expected to be 2,300 pounds per acre, up 40 pounds from 2014. Small white beans are expected to account for 16 percent of production, followed by black beans at 12 percent, and light red kidney beans at 10 percent. Washington dry bean production is forecast at 1.53 million cwt, down 21 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 109,000 acres, is down 20,000 acres from 2014. Yield is expected to be 1,400 pounds per acre, down 100 pounds from 2014. Garbanzo beans are expected to account for 46 percent of production, followed by pinto beans at 15 percent, and small red beans at 10 percent.
