Northwest Region Potato Stocks December Report

Northwest Region Potato Stocks on December 1, 2016 Totaled 176 million Hundredweight Potato stocks in Idaho on December 1, 2016 totaled 100 million cwt. Disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 39.3 million cwt. December 1 potato stocks in Oregon totaled 18.9 million cwt. Disappearance to date was 4.2 million cwt. In Washington, December 1 potato stocks totaled 57.0 million cwt. Disappearance to date totaled 49.5 million cwt. Nationally, the 13 major potato States held 269 million cwt of potatoes in storage December 1, 2016, up 2 percent from last year. Potatoes in storage accounted for 66 percent of the 2016 fall storage States' production, unchanged from previous year. Potato disappearance, at 136 million cwt. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 12.0 million cwt, was 3 percent lower than 2015.   Processors in Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon used 25.7 million cwt of potatoes for the season, down 4 percent from December l, 2015. In Washington and other Oregon counties, 36.5 million cwt of potatoes had been used by processors for the season, up 7 percent from the previous year. Processors in the 9 major States used 73.6 million cwt of potatoes for the season, up 4 percent from December 1, 2015. Dehydrated usage accounted for 11.6 million cwt of the total potatoes processed.
