September Meat Exports Strong
New data from the Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Meat Export Federation show September was another solid month for U.S. red meat exports. The data shows pork, beef and lamb totals were all well above year-ago levels. September beef export volume was recorded at 101,000 metric tons, down slightly from August, but 27 percent above the same time last year. Third quarter volume was 307,300 metric tons, the best quarterly performance since 2014. September pork exports totaled 183,900 metric tons, also down slightly from August, but up seven percent since the same time last year. USMEF president and CEO Phillip Seng said the positive trend in exports “couldn’t come at a better time,” noting the U.S. large supplies that are hitting the market.
