Total cheese production in the U.S. was 981 million pounds in Sepember. According to the latest USDA Dairy Product Summary, that was 1.6 percent above September 2015, but 1.8 percent below August 2016.
Italian type cheese production totaled 421 million pounds, 4.4 percent above 2015, but 0.9 percent below August.
American type cheese production totaled 378 million pounds, 0.3 percent below last year and and 2.9 percent less than last month.
Butter production was 133 million pounds, 0.4 percent less than the previous September, but 2.3 percent above August 2016.
