CDC Says 126 More Ill With Salmonella From JBS Plant In Arizona

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) late last week said that, since its last update in October, 126 more people have been found to have become ill in connection with an outbreak of Salmonella Newport linked to ground beef produced at the JBS plant in Tolleson, Ariz.
A total of 246 people from 25 states are now tied to the outbreak. Of those cases, 59 patients were hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported, CDC said.
JBS Tolleson recalled about 6.5 million pounds of beef products, including ground beef, on Oct. 4 because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Illnesses started on dates from Aug. 5 to Oct. 16, CDC said.
The agency advised consumers who have ground beef in their homes with the establishment number “EST. 267” to contact the store where it was purchased to find out if it was recalled. Recalled beef was produced from July 26, 2018, to Sept. 7, 2018, and shipped to retailers nationwide.
