Congressman Mike Simpson reintroduces the Wildfire Disaster Funding Act
Congressman Mike Simpson reintroduced the Wildfire Disaster Funding Act (WDFA) legislation aimed at fixing the federal budgeting process for wildfires. The legislation calls for an end to “fire-borrowing”, the practice of taking money from non-fire accounts to pay for fire suppression when costs exceed an agency’s fire budget. “Fire-borrowing” takes funding away from preventative programs, increasing wildfire costs. WDFA calls for catastrophic wildfires to be funded like natural disasters, freeing up resources for forest management and wildfire mitigation.
