JBS S.A. expects to export 100 containers of Brazilian fresh beef to the United States per month beginning in the first half of 2017, equivalent to about 2,500 metric tons, the world's largest beef processor announced. The first container of JBS' Brazilian fresh beef sent to the U.S. landed in Philadelphia on Friday (14), with 25 metric tonnes of meat produced in the company's Campo Grande unit, in Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul state. For the rest of 2016, JBS plans to send 10 containers of Brazilian fresh beef to the US per week, with 25 metric tons per container.Brazil and the United States agreed to allow fresh beef trade between the two countries, with Brazilian industries allowed to export up to 64,800 metric tones per year, competing with other countries in Central America.“The participation of JBS in this market is strategic because it opens a new frontier for fresh beef exports, not just for the U.S. but also to other markets that follow the same standards in terms of sanitary requirements,” said Miguel Gularde, president at JBS Mercosul, in a statement.JBS has four Brazilian plants authorized to export fresh beef to the US: Naviraí and Campo Grande II in Mato Grosso do Sul state, and Andradina and Lins in São Paulo state.
