January 1 Sheep and Lamb Inventory in the Northwest Region down 2 percent from Last Year
January 1, 2017 sheep and lamb inventory in Idaho was estimated at 255,000 head, unchanged from 2016. Inventory of sheep and lambs in Oregon was 170,000 head, down 6 percent from last year. In Washington, sheep and lamb inventory totaled 48,000 head, down 4 percent from January 1, 2016. Nationally, January 1 all sheep and lamb inventory was estimated at 5.20 million head. This was down 2 percent from January 1, 2016. January 1, 2017 milk goat inventory in Idaho totaled 4,200 head, up 11 percent from 2016. Inventory of milk goats in Oregon was estimated at 12,600 head, up 3 percent from last year. In Washington, milk goat inventory was 7,500 head, down 6 percent from the previous year. Nationally, January 1 milk goat inventory was estimated at 373,000 head, unchanged from January 1, 2016. January 1, 2017 inventory of meat and other goats in Oregon was estimated at 27,000 head, unchanged from last year. In Washington, meat and other goat inventory was 20,000 head, down 9 percent from the previous year. Nationally, January 1 meat and other goat inventory was estimated at 2.12 million head, up 1 percent from January 1, 2016. All goat inventory in the United States on January 1, 2017, totaled 2.64 million head, up 1 percent from 2016.
