MGGA Convention & Trade Show Coming November 27-29

Great Falls – The 2018 Montana Grain Growers Association Convention and Trade Show is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27 through Thursday, November 29, at the Best Western Heritage Inn, Great Falls, Montana. With over 800 expected to attend, a dynamic and educational agenda, and a full trade show with over 80 exhibitors, the MGGA Convention is one of Montana’s largest agricultural gatherings. “If you’re a grain producer, this is the annual event you don’t want to miss,” said Sunburst farmer Lyle Benjamin, MGGA Vice President and this year’s Convention Chairman. “This year’s theme ‘Digging Deep: From Markets to Manganese’ signifies our effort to provide in-depth information and education on a broad expanse of topics important to all progressive farmers and stakeholders. Events begin Tuesday, November 27, with a full-day deep-dive workshop on grain marketing. The ‘MGGA Risk Academy – Managing Price Risk in Uncertain Times,’ tailored to Montana grain producers and generously sponsored by Grain Craft, will be presented by risk management consultants from commercial hedging company FC Stone. Topics include terminology, concepts and mechanics of futures, basis, hedging, options and cash contracts along with application guidance for producers at all levels of marketing expertise. On Wednesday and Thursday, the agenda is packed with speakers on a variety of topics including the U.S. agricultural trade agenda, a perspective on the economic future of agriculture, research priorities and wheat breeding, soil health, alternative crop opportunities and challenges, farm policy and the new farm bill, agricultural tax issues, new technologies for weed control and so much more. Benjamin adds, “Four trade show breaks and three nights of receptions, capped by Thursday’s banquet where we’ll honor outgoing President Michelle Erickson-Jones, give attendees time to visit with exhibitors and catch up with friends. There is a welcome camaraderie that is felt at every convention, especially when we all work together to establish resolutions that set our organization’s policy direction for the coming year and I invite all voting members to participate in our committee and resolution process.” Visit www.mgga.org or call the MGGA office at 406-761-4596 for more information and to register.
