Winter Wheat Production in Northwest Region down 2 percent from May
Based on June 1, 2017 conditions, Idaho winter wheat production is forecast at 58.0 million bushels, down 13 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 690,000 acres, is down 20,000 acres from 2016. Yield is expected to average 84 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from the May 1 forecast and down 10 bushels from last year. Oregon winter wheat production is expected to total 40.9 million bushels, up 15 percent from last year. Area harvested is expected to total 705,000 acres, down 5,000 acres from the previous year. Yield is forecast at 58 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from the May 1 forecast but up 8 bushels from last year. Washington winter wheat production is forecast at 108 million bushels, down 17 percent from 2016. Harvested area, at 1.66 million acres, is down 10,000 acres from the previous year. Yield is forecast at 65 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from the May 1 forecast and down 13 bushels from last year. The United States winter wheat production is forecast at 1.25 billion bushels, up slightly from the May 1 forecast but down 25 percent from 2016. Based on June 1 conditions, the United States yield is forecast at 48.9 bushels per acre, up 0.1 bushel from last month but down 6.4 bushels from last year. U.S. White Winter wheat, at 209 million bushels, is down 2 percent from last month. Of the White Winter production, 17.5 million bushels are Hard White and 191 million bushels are Soft White. Hard Red Winter production, at 743 million bushels, is up 1 percent from last month. Soft Red Winter, at 298 million bushels, is up 1 percent from the May forecast.
