Limits Rising for Drone Insurance
(Dow Jones) -- Commercial drone insurance for companies that are operating unmanned aircraft usually include limits of $1M to $10M, says Chris Proudlove, a senior vice president at Global Aerospace, at an Advisen insurance conference in New York. But limits can be as high as several hundred million dollars, and even that might not be enough, he says. "One of the scenarios that keeps me awake at night is companies flying around offshore oil platforms or telecoms infrastructure," he says. "You can see a situation where a drone might impact a critical piece of an offshore drilling platform that puts that rig out of production for 24 hours."
