The Center for Consumer Freedom’s HumaneWatch.org project is airing as a Super Bowl commercial an updated version of its popular web video

The Center for Consumer Freedom’s HumaneWatch.org project is airing as a Super Bowl commercial an updated version of its popular web video “Lawyers in Cages”, which parodies the Humane Society of the United States’ weepy commercials. The ad, which will air during pre-game prior to kickoff, is meant to illustrate that HSUS’s priority isn’t pets—it’s politics, noting the group employs “dozens of well-paid lawyers and lobbyists.”The video argues that HSUS is not affiliated with local humane societies, gives them only 1 percent of its $140-million-dollar budget and raises money with images of needy cats and dogs but doesn’t operate a single pet shelter.“The public needs to know that they—and shelter pets—are being abused by HSUS,” said Will Coggin, managing director of the Center for Consumer Freedom. “People who are sick of the scam should send their donations to local shelters. That is where they can make a difference."HSUS response“This is more blather from a front group for animal abusers. There is a single reason they spend millions attacking us: they feel powerless to stop our strategic efforts to combat all forms of animal cruelty,” said HSUS President and CEO Wayne Pacelle in a statement emailed to Meatingplace.
