Tyson Foods is confirming reports that some of its workers have returned to a plant near Pasco, Wash., that was temporarily closed after a grease fire broke out early Tuesday morning.
The fire was limited to the byproduct rendering area of the beef slaughter plant and none of the 1,400 workers were hurt as the plant was not operating at the time of the blaze, Tyson told Meatingplace in a statement. Production for the day was canceled as fire officials and the company launched investigations into the cause of the fire. The Tyson plant is the second-largest employer in Walla Walla County, according to local reports.
A Tyson spokesperson told Meatingplace today that the beef processing operation at the facility has resumed operations, but there is little other information to share so far as the investigations continue.
