Cargill Warns of 'Destructive Trade War'

(Dow Jones) -- Food giant Cargill says it's "deeply concerned" as the US and China exchange tariff threats, after applying penalties to one another's exports in recent weeks. The interconnected nature of global markets mean that such actions inevitably will impact the world economy, and in the case of China -- the no. 2 market for US food and agricultural exports -- a bigger impact will be felt by US farmers and companies like Cargill, which is due to report quarterly earnings Thursday. "The impact of trade conflict between the world's two largest economies could lead to a destructive trade war with serious consequences for economic growth and job creation," the company says. "There are no winners in a global trade war."
