Ag Groups Mixed on RFS Rule

While some groups recognized the improvement in the volume obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard, others agriculture groups were quick to criticize the Environmental Protection Agencies failure to bring the RFS to statutory levels. The American Farm Bureau said the decision to lower the requirements “undermines our nation’s commitment to advancing biofuels and establishing energy independence.” AFB President Bob Stallman said we need more biofuels, not less. The National Farmers Union said the final rule allows for further damages to family farmers. And efforts to combat climate change. However, Growth Energy called the move by the EPA positive, saying Growth Energy members were overall pleased with the outcome. The National Corn Growers Association called the outcome a step in the right direction. Finally, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack echoed NCGA saying the rule “is a positive step forward providing for continued growth in all parts of the Renewable Fuel Standard.”
